Fitness Wednesday - Week 0

On Day 2 of this blog, I posted that getting in better shape was one of my resolutions for this year. To that end, I purchased an exercise bike over the weekend. I find biking to be better for me. With my current weight, walking or running puts a lot of strain on my knees. This doesn't happen with the bike.

I managed to finally get the bike assembled last night and took it for a test spin. I didn't do much last night, just biking a mile. I had intended to start using it in earnest today, but my body had other ideas, sleeping through my first alarm. As a result, I ended up not having time. However, I plan on using it when I get home tonight to make up for missing today.

In addition to working out more, I'm also trying to be more careful about what I eat. Honestly, this is the hardest part for me. I've tried for the last couple of months to regulate my diet. Breakfast and lunch have been pretty easy for the most part, because I'm at work. I've also manage to reduce the amount of soda I drink and switching to diet sometimes, as well. However, my willpower tends to fall apart when it comes to dinner.

I tend to eat much worse at night. I'm working on curbing this and starting to eating better, but I have a habit of slipping and not thinking about it. It's even more difficult on the weekends, because I eat out frequently with my friends. I know I have the ability to change this. I just have to make myself do it.

I knew that I would be posting about fitness today, so I weighed myself this morning. The scale read 332 lbs. This is about where I've been for a long time now, but it is much higher than where I want to be. What I plan on doing for the forseeable future is dedicating Wednesday posts to be about my ongoing fitness endeavors. Hopefully, I will be able to see a trend of that number going steadily down through the course of the year.

As I mentioned in my original fitness post, my plan is to lose 100 lbs this year. I feel that if I put just a little bit of effort into, this should be easily attainable. I plan on putting in more than just a little effort, however, so I hope to hit this goal sooner. I can't remember the last time I weighed 230 lbs, and I'm not sure what I'll do with myself when I get there.

  1. slow & steady. Changing life styles & choices is not easy. I made a huge one 33 years ago & it is still a work in progress. While not an effort any more I still have to remember where I can from. You can do it!!!
