Fitness Wednesday - Week 1

As I mentioned last week, I will be devoting Wednesdays to posts about my ongoing efforts to get in better shape. This is a very important goal for me this year, but I know that I will struggle with it. I have an issue with willpower when it comes to food and exercise. This has become even more apparent to me this past week.

I've never really been a careful eater. As a gamer, I tend to fall under that stereotype and consume large amounts of junk food and soda. I've started working on this in the last couple of months and have cut a lot of that out of my diet. I still give in from time to time, though. I find it alot of easier to avoid things like candy and chips these days. Soda is still a major weakness for me, however.

Through the week, it isn't that bad. I find it easier to avoid sodas there and stick mostly to water and Crystal Lite. When I do break down and get a soda, I try to get diet as much as possible. Its usually easy to avoid after work as well, because I get home late due to my shift. The weekend is where I run into trouble. I tend to hang out with my friends on the weekend and eat out. It's much harder for me to avoid soda in those situations, but I am working on it.

As I mentioned in last week's post, I recently purchased an exercise bike. I have used it a few times in the last week, but not everyday as I intended. Mostly, this is just a product of my laziness. I'm the kind of person who would prefer to just hit snooze when the alarm goes off and wait until the last possible moment. I think I will have more luck trying to work out after work, so I'm going to try that this week.

I have made some steps, though. I've started bringing vegetables to work for snacks. I'm slowly working on changing my diet to cut out more of the unhealthy foods and junk foods. I've started making better choices when I eat out. And I have worked out a little bit. As a result, I weighed in at 331 lbs. today. That is one pound less than last week. I know it isn't much, but it is a start.

I'm working on improving my willpower so that I can avoid the pitfalls I've ran into so far. Even being down a single pound gives me hope and renews my efforts. Hopefully next week I will be able to post about a larger drop in weight. I hope to be under 330 when I post next week.

  1. keep it up!! It took years the develop the entrenched bad habits & it will take more than days and/or weeks to develop new ones. Trust me--it gets easier.
